Book Review
I like the book even though it was a little slow. Edward was not in this book much, the emotions left behind by his departure felt real and familiar to me. Knowing the feeling of a heartbroken teenager and having felt that many times in the past my heart broke again for Bella as she struggled to live her life without Edward and hold on to him at the same time. And as time goes on the war inside rages on as she struggles on whether or not she should move on and give what is left of her shattered heart to another or live with the whole that was left gapping in her chest. The book was a little slow, but I still had a hard time putting in down and even stopped talking to my friends and family to read!!!
What are some pros and cons of reading New Moon?
Pros:
- More adventure and suspense as Bella's life with her extraordinary friends continues.
- Complexity and intrigue build as the plot thickens and new characters are introduced into the series.
- Realistically depicts the intense emotions of teenagers.
Cons:
- Not as fast-paced as Twilight, the middle section is a little slow.
- Some aspects of the story are predictable.
- Fans of Edward will be disappointed because he leaves Bella
Descibe Bella in New Moon
Bella is confused at the beginning of new moon because Edward is acting strange. When he leaves her, she becomes depressed and non-caring about herself. She goes cliff diving after Edward leaves because she hears Edwards voice whenever she does something really dangerous, so she jumps off a cliff. Alices 'sees' bella jumping off that cliff and thinks that she is committing suicide. It obviously looked like she was going to die by the way she landed and everything. Edward does come back at the end of the book, and she returns somewhat to her normal self being happy and laughing again.
How is the book different from the movie?
The book and the movie were different in many ways. A few examples are:
- In the book when Bella finally find Edward again Edward thinks is he hallucinating. In the movie he realizes Bella is alive instantly.
- In the book Bella only hears Edwards voice in her mind while she is doing something dangerous. In the movie she see's visions of him.
- In the scene where Jacob gives Bella a birthday gift, in the book Jacob hasn't even started talking to Bella on her birthday, they start talking months after the fact. Because Edward hasn't left yet. However, in the movie Jacob shows up outside her school, and gives her a little gift and a hug which angers Edward.
- In the scene when Jacob kisses Bella, they aren't at Bella's house and they don't kiss. In the movie she leans in for the kiss, she wants to kiss him too, and they're at Bella's house while Alice is there too.
- In the book Edwards car is a silver Volvo. In the movie it is Black.
- In the book Rosalie apologizes for being so rude to Bella. In the movie she was still rude.
- When Edward proposes to Bella in the book it was in her room. In the movie it was in the woods.

New Moon Summary
New Moon starts at the Cullen's house on Bella Swan's eightenth birthday. As she opens a gift, the wrapping paper gives her a paper cut. Jasper, the newest vampire to take up the non-human diet leaps at her, and Edward jumps in between them to save her. He later decides to make a heart-wretching desicion to move away and leave Bella because he and his family are too dangerous for her. He lies to her and convinces her that he doesn't love her anymore. This destroys her. She lives her life for months without really living. She is in a "zombie-like" state because she just stayed in the house and didn't socialize. it is only until she goes to the movies to please her father Charlie that something happens. While walking around at night, she sees a group of drunken men. She walks up to them, remembering when Edward saved her from them. As she walks closer, she hears Edward's voice in her head telling her not to do anything stupid. She later discovers that whenever she does anything reckless or stupid she hears his voice subconsciously. When she drives down the street and sees two run-down motocycles, she automatically thinks of her Native-American friend Jacob Black to fix up the bikes. She though that would be the perfect stupid thing to do to hear Edward's voice again. She starts to get a life back while hanging out with Jake and doing dangerous things. Victoria comes back to Forks avenging her mate James things are only getting more dangerous for Bella, but she doesn't care. She is fed up and wants to do something so reckless and stupid to hear his voice for days. She jumps off a cliff, into a river because Jake said he would take her cliff diving. Victoria is in the river, and she almost drowns, but Jake saved her, because he is now a werewolf! Alice Cullen sees her jump off the cliff in a vision and thinks she is dead. She contacts Edward who is heart-broken. He rushes to Italy to the Volturi to be killed. But Alice and Bella fly to Italy and save him. Edward promises to never leave her again and to always look after her especially because of Victoria. So the Cullens move back in and order is restored.
Why does Edward try to kill himself?
Edward trys to kill himself because Bella goes cliff diving at La Push. Then Alice sees her in one of her visions and thinks she is trying to commit suicide. After that Alice tells Rosalie (her sister). However, Rosalie can not keep a secret so she goes and tells Edward. Since Edward is so madly in love with Bella that he trys to kill himself because he thinks with Bella dead he feels he has no reason to live.
Alice goes to check on Bella to make sure she didn't actually commit suicide. Then her and Bella rush to try and find Edward before he exposes himself to the humans. Luckily, Bella reaches Edward before he can show the humans he is a vampire. If he exposed himself to the humans the Volturi would kill him becasue he almost revealed the secret of being a vampire.
Why do Edward and Bella want to get married?
He loves her and she loves him! Even though he is a vampire he doesn't want to be a monster, yet he doesn't want to have died back in 1918 from spanish influenza. He wants to be with Bella forever. And to make sure that she is his and nobody elses. Not Jacob's or Mikes' or Tyler's or Eric's. He wants to be with her forever, and never lose her.
However Bella is reluctant at first, as she is unsure about marriage after the divorce of her parents Charlie and Renee.
However she wants to try new things in her realationship with Edward, which he will not give her until they are married. They become engaged in Eclipse, and marry in Breaking Dawn, where she finds out that her worries about marriage and marrying Edward have dissapeared on the actual wedding day.
How come Alice and Jasper can affect Bella with their supernatural powers, but Edward and Aro and Jane can't?
Bella has a very private mind. She can't be touched there. What Edward and Aro do is clearly a mental thing; Jane, also, works inside the head (Jane doesn't actually inflict pain on anyone's body, she just puts the illusion of pain inside her victim's head. It's a very effective form of torture). Conversely, what Jasper does is no illusion. He affects the physical body, slowing the pulse and upping the endorphin levels to calm someone, for example, or raising the pulse and pumping out the adrenalin to excite them. Alice, also, works outside the mind in the realm of possible realities. She doesn't see the thought process behind the decisions, just the outcomes.
Why did Edward leave Bella?
In the beginning of New Moon, the Cullen family throws a birthday party for Bella. While opening a gift Bella gets a small paper cut. Jasper, who is the newest vegetarian, cannot resist even the smallest flow of blood. He attempts to attack Bella and Edward must push her out of the way were she falls into the broken crystal that had been used to decorate her party. Edward doesn't want to hurt Bella anymore. He believes that because he is a vampire, Bella will always be in a situation where she will get hurt. Edward tells Bella what he thinks in the woods and says "This is the last time you will ever see me." Edward doesn't understand that leaving her will only hurt Bella more. He takes everything he gave her away. "It will be like I had never met you."
After Edward leaves Bella doesnt eat or sleep or drink and she stops reading and watching tv (not that she watched tv that much anyway) but she becomes empty and she doesnt listen to music any more. Overall, Edward dint want to hurt Bella. He just relized that if bella had been at Mike or Jess's house and she cut her hand, they would get a bandaid and be done, but with vampires she ended up getting stiches. He thought that it was best for her.
